A new day
Wow - it's been a long time since I've updated this - lots been going on I feel like but I haven't seen a single result. I have struggled through trying to diet and exercise and I'm here more than a month later at nearly the same weight. Ridiculous! All I want to do now is just give up, what's the use I'm the same weight working out as hard as I can as I was when I did it whenever I felt like it. The difference -- right now I'm exhausted, sore, walking funny and frustrated. So it got me thinking as I've been trying to train to run 5 miles in less than an hour, oh yeah, and no breaks. Run straight through I've never been able to do that, not even when I was in my best shape, maybe I could have tried to but I never did. So back to my thoughts -- I realize that there is a BIG difference in being skinny and being in shape.
Thanks to one of my roommates our house received a catalog from a certain store where gorgeous, itty bitty models showed of the clothing with as little clothing on as possible. As I skimmed the pages I noticed their abdominals, man I would love those abs, but almost immediately I was drawn to their arms, then looked at their legs, skinny yes, but no definition. Nothing! To me they almost looked like noodles. I came to the realization, I don't want to just be skinny, if I did I could totally restrict my calorie intake focus on walking and yoga and nothing else. But that's not what I want. I want to be toned, in shape to where 5 miles isn't impossible.
That's what I want but getting there - well - not today but instead of giving up I'm going to push myself to stay with it and I guess hope that I see something from all this work.

Struggles
This week started out with incredible motivation for a hard butt kicking workout. Instead I've been trying to get any workout in at all, my body doesn't want to work with me and my cold is making it so difficult to breathe. I can't run if I do I can't for that long but my thought is that if I keep moving at least I won't loose the motivation to keep going. Although I'm coughing like crazy I love the fact that I still get on the treadmill and try to speedwalk pushing myself a little further. I did part of my arm workout and like it, I think I need to time it and make sure it's not too much. That's usually my big problem is planning too much for the week and not remembering that I have a full time job that causes me to constantly want to loose focus.
Lesson learned this week - anything is better than nothing.

Training begins... a couple more obstacles
Today I prepared to begin my training and as many times before my original plans have been destroyed. I woke up Friday with a deep chest cold and now it seems to be getting worse, so instead of giving up I just changed up my routine and tried to push forward.
Today's morning workout -
* Warm up 10 Min [3.0]
* Run 5 Min [5.0}
* Walk 5 Min [3.0]
Repeat 3 times
* 5 Min (3.5)
* Cool Down 15 Min (3.0)
Although I felt like maybe I could run more, my blocked airway made that a little too challenging. I hope to be able to do at least an hour workout tonight, with my new arm workout I hope to improve tonight.

Keep moving forward...
So - after a long and painful February I haven't gotten anywhere close to my previous goals. My six month mark was Feb. 14th and lets just say those goals didn't happen. Now I'm concentrating on my birthday which is now almost 5 months away. Here are some of my goals, not to get back on soda (By the way I went the entire month of February without chocolate or soda - a big deal for me).
*Lose 30 lbs (I have a bet with my Dad but the deadline is coming up so hopefully)
*Run 5 mile in under an hour (Another bet I hope it works)
*To jump start this Julia and I are running a 5K on April 2nd, I'm scared because now I have only a few weeks to train and I feel like I'm starting at a -2 skill level.
*My plan for the rest of the year is to start training for a Triathlon giving me motivation and being able to change up my routine so that I don't get stuck into the same old routine.
*I'm also thinking about maybe picking up Kayaking, I don't know, we'll see but the best way is to try and find fun ways to get outside and combine with a solid workout.
Those are my goals - I'll do better to give the day to day struggles.
